AVI-OIL India [P] Limited is a joint venture of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Balmer-Lawrie & Co. Ltd. and NYCO S.A. of France established up for the indigenous production / supply of aviation and allied lubricants to the Defence Services, Civil Aviation and the industrial sector.
These lubricants comprise a range of high performance oils, greases and specialities, mostly synthetic, designed to meet the stringent requirements of operation over a wide temperature range and often-hostile environment.
Earlier such products were being imported. To achieve self-reliance in this strategic area, AVI-OIL India [P] Ltd., was established as a joint venture: Indian Oil Corporation, which holds 25 per cent equity, provides the marketing infrastructure and the experience of indigenisation, Balmer-Lawrie holding 25 per cent equity has the strength in project engineering and NYCO S.A. of France, which holds 50 per cent equity, has provided the technical know-how for a wide range of products for aircraft, military and industrial equipment.
The manufacturing plant of AVI-OIL is located at village Piyala, in Faridabad district, Haryana, 45 km from New Delhi.
An aircraft typically requires 15 to 30 grades of lubricants specifically tailored for each application. These products apart from conforming to the governing specifications and providing satisfactory performance must have the approval of aircraft manufacturers, aero-engine builders and the relevant military or civil authorities. Use of the correct products backed by the aircraft designer's approval is a must to ensure the reliability and safety of the aircraft.
AVI-OIL has been supplying aero-engine oils, hydraulic fluids, greases and preservatives to the Indian Defence Services since 1994 and AVI-OIL is the only company whose products are approved by the Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC), Ministry of Defence. AVI-OIL is registered with the Directorate - General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA), as an eligible manufacturer of aviation lubricants.
AVI-OIL has the approvals for its products from major aircraft design bureaux like MiG, Kamov, Antonov, MIL Helicopters, Ilyushin, Yakovlev, Sukhoi, Eurocopter and engine manufacturers like Rolls-Royce, Turbomeca, Snecma, International Aero Engines, CFM and Telegyne Continental Motors. It also has the product approved for use on the engine of the Advanced Light Helicopter designed by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.
Products available comprise a full range of oils, greases protectives and specialities for all the aircraft operating with the Indian Defence Services including the SU-30K aircraft of the Indian Air Force.
For Civil Aviation, AVI-OIL has the entire range of products for Airbus and Boeing aircraft, including the engine oil for the CFM 56 engines of the advanced Boeing 737 fleet operating in India. A variety of piston engine aircraft oils, greases and specialities are also available for use in smaller aircraft operated by flying clubs, pilot training schools and agricultural aviation. AVI-OIL is approved by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) under the CAR Series E Category D&E requirements.
For the industrial sector, AVI-OIL produces synthetic lubricants for use on aero-derivative gas turbines installed for power generation. AVI-OIL's synthetic lubricant 'TURBONYCOIL 600' is approved by Rolls-Royce Allison and General Electric for use in their industrial and marine gas turbines.
AVI-OIL has established a modern state-of-art laboratory testing facility to provide technical support to the customers. This enhances the reliability of operation of their equipment and provides confidence to the users.
AVI-OIL's emergence complements the efforts of the Indian aviation industry and the power sector of achieving self-reliance by providing products vitally required for operation of their equipment.
